Mimi Munch

Reading at the Booknic!

Welcome!  I'm Mimi Munch, and this is my 20th year teaching 6th grade at Jefferson. My husband and I have lived in Manitowoc for 21 years, and some of my favorite things to do are reading, watching movies and traveling.  This past summer I spent two weeks in Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia.
I enjoy 6th grade because it provides a variety of academic and non-academic opportunities for our students. 6th graders are the school leaders.  They are expected to participate in Safety Patrol, and they have the opportunity to be a member of the service group, K-Kids or work for the UnitedOne Credit Union. This year my students will follow a school-wide positive behavior program, continue with a new level of D.A.R.E, compete in the Battle of the Books, take a trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum, and of course, have the privilege of going to Sixth Grade Camp at the School Forest.
Our students will learn from all three 6th grade teachers this year.  I will be teaching Social Studies and ELA. In Social Studies, students learn about ancient civilizations; In English Language Arts we will be doing a lot of reading and writing including narratives, research and poetry. In Science, with Miss Troullier, they will study Physical and Earth Science; and in Math, with Mrs. Loftus, they use the College Preparatory Math Series which focuses learning on group work and problem solving.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments throughout the year.
