Welcome to my web-page! If you're reading this, you probably have a child that is either in orchestra or is considering joining it in fifth grade. Since I'm the orchestra teacher in five of our six elementary schools, I can almost guarantee that we will cross paths at some point during your child's musical training.
I was born and raised in Manitowoc! My students always find it interesting that I attended some of the same schools that either they or their siblings go to ... Franklin, Washington and Lincoln! I then went to Silver Lake College to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, where I studied violin with Ralph Holter, Concertmaster of the Green Bay Symphony.
I taught both general music and Junior and Senior High School orchestra in Sheboygan for a number of years after college, and then took several years off from teaching in the public schools when my daughters were born. During that time period, I taught Music for Infants and Toddlers at Silver Lake College. Many of those little tots had me again for a teacher when I became employed with the Manitowoc Public School District as an Orchestra teacher in 2000.
I'm married and have two daughters. My husband, Wayne, and I ran a dairy farm for about 20 years just west of Manitowoc. After we sold our cows, Wayne became employed by Sargento Cheese in Kiel. My oldest daughter, Heather, has a degree in Secondary Math Education from UWGB and is currently working as Production Manager at Beerntsen's Confectionery in Manitowoc! My youngest, Sarah, graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design as an Industrial Designer in 2013, and is currently going back to school to take some classes on web design and APP development.
My hobbies revolve around two things: music and photography! I play Principal Second Violin in the Manitowoc Symphony and LOVE it when my students come to hear our concerts! Please consider coming to one of our performances at the Capitol Civic Centre with your child.
As for photography, don't be surprised if you see me outside of school with a camera hanging around my neck! It's NEVER too early to start taking pictures for the next County Fair! After all, there ARE 89 categories to enter!
