Activities
Jefferson Elementary School staff know that children learn in many ways. School activities encourage fun while learning and promotes important social skills. Some of the excitement Jefferson has to offer includes:

Back Pack Book Buddies
: In partnership with Silver Lake College, 2nd and 3rd grade students have the opportunity to be partnered with a Silver Lake College student to continue to build literacy skills.
- Band:
Beginning in 5th grade, students are given an opportunity to try out the various instruments and then choose if they'd like to join band.
- Basketball:
Girls in grades 3-4 can join the Jefferson Basketball team to learn the basics of playing the game during a 1 1/2 month class held bi-weekly after school which concludes with a tournament against the other MPSD elementary teams.

Students in 5th Grade (Fall) and 6th Grade (Spring) participate in the

E
ducation program which is taught by an officer from the Manitowoc Police Department. The 10 week program teaches students how to resist pressures which may influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The program also assists students in problem solving, being good citizens, and making smart decisions. At the conclusion of the program, students receive a certificate at a D.A.R.E. Graduation Ceremony.

First Grade Friday Friends
: First graders have the opportunity to be partnered with a volunteer to read together on Friday mornings that school is in session.
- Flag Football:
The MPSD Football Youth League is for MPSD students in grades 3-6 to teach the basics of football. For more information, please contact Head Varsity Football Coach Rick Ducat at ducatr@mpsd.k12.wi.us.
- Grandparents Day:
One of the most enjoyable and exciting days of spring is when students can showcase their school to their grandparents by inviting them to spend the morning with them at school. This creates special memories that will last a lifetime.
- Go-Getters:
Griffin Go-Getters is a service organization for 4th-5th-6th graders. This student-led organization provides members with opportunities to perform service, build character and develop leadership skills. They work together to help others in the community, state, country and world.

Look Ahead Lakers
: In partnership with Silver Lake College, 5th grade students learn about post secondary options through college mentors.
- Orchestra:
5th and 6th graders can choose to become instrumentalists by opting to join orchestra.
- Peer Mediators:
Peer mediators is a student program that helps other students solve problems that may occur in school with peers.
- Positive Behavior Invention Support Program (PBIS):
This program rewards students with Griffin Gold tickets that they can turn in for prizes when they are acknowledged for being kind, respectful, responsible and safe.
- Red Ribbon Week:
A week filled with special "dress-up" days to remind students the important message to stay away from drugs.
- 6th Grade Camp:
Sixth grade students get to enjoy the beauty and the environmental education of the outdoors by spending 2 nights and 3 days at the Rahr Memorial School Forest.

UnitedOne Credit Union:
Jefferson students have the opportunity to learn about the importance of saving money by using our Jefferson UnitedOne Credit Union. This credit union is open every Thursday morning before school.
- Volleyball:
The is offered to girls in grades 5 and 6 in the spring. Practices are held after school for a 1 1/2 month period, with the girls learning the fundamentals of the game along with showing good sportsmanship. The culmination of the practices is a tournament held on a Saturday with the girls competing against all the other Manitowoc Public elementary students.
