Nicole Loftus

Hello My Name Is...

Mrs. Loftus

 Mrs. Loftus

This is my 3rd year teaching 6th grade at Jefferson and in the Manitowoc Public School District.
I enjoy 6th grade because it provides a variety of academic and non-academic opportunities for our students and as 6th graders, they are school leaders and role models. They are expected to participate in Safety Patrol, and they have the opportunity to be a member of the service group, K-Kids. This year our students will participate in DARE, compete in the Battle of the Books, take a trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum and have the privilege of going to Sixth Grade Camp at the Rahr Memorial School Forest.

One new thing for 6th graders is that the students will be learning from all three 6th grade teachers. Math is taught by Mrs. Loftus, Science by Miss Troullier, Social Studies by Ms. Munch, and for English/Language Arts by the student's homeroom teacher.

In math, students will be work in the College Prepatory Math Series (CMP) which focuses learning on group work and problem solving. In literacy, the class will follow the Readers and Writers Workshop model. We will be doing a lot of reading and writing including narratives, research, and poetry. In Social Studies, students will learn about ancient civilizations. In Science, students will study Physical and Earth Science. Much of our learning this year will be guided by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for Mathematics and English/Language Arts.

Please visit this website and my calendar for information regarding our scheduled upcoming events. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments throughout the year. The best time to reach me by my classroom phone would be before school starting at 8:00am and after school usually until 4:00pm.
